Tiny 500W PSU meets latest medical and IT standards

The new GCU500 series of 500W AC-DC power supplies, with class-leading features, measure just 83.8 x 165.1 x 39.3mm (3.3 x 6.5 x 1.55”), conveniently fitting into 1U systems, if required.

These rugged products are ideal for high reliability, cost-sensitive industrial applications. Dual fusing, low leakage current and input/output isolation of 2 x MOPPs (Means Of Patient Protection) makes the series ideal for use in critical healthcare applications such as ventilators and medical carts in hospital environments. The products meet the latest ‘third edition’ of medical standard IEC 60601-1 including risk management and is rated for safety at high altitudes – 4000m for medical and 5000m for IT.

High efficiency across a wide range of system loads

The GCU500 series employs Zero Voltage Switching (ZVS), resonant conversion throughout combined with synchronous rectification techniques resulting in very high efficiency across a wide range of system loads, providing low running costs, reduced internal operating temperature, extended lifetime, easy integration into end equipment and energy savings.

The flexible, easy to install, mechanical form factor is a U-channel weighing just 748 grams, with screw terminal connections for the main output. Input connections are Molex type or screw terminals when the optional fan cover is fitted.

Operating temperature range is -40 to +70C with full power available up to +50C. A useful 250W is available without fan cooling.

The input voltage range, from 80 to 264VAC, is truly universal with full output power maintained down to 90VAC with just a 20% reduction at 80VAC & the product series provides a main output of 12, 15, 18, 24, 36 or 48VDC with a convenient 5V standby and 12V fan supply. They feature remote on/off and power fail signalling as standard.

Designed with the system designer in mind

The latest EMC standards are met for both industrial and healthcare applications, including the stringent class B level for conducted emissions to EN55011/32, and medical 4th edition further enhancing the ease of integration into end applications.

Internal protection features include overvoltage for the main output with short circuit and overload for all outputs and overtemperature protection.

These compact, low-cost, full-featured power supplies are designed with the system designer in mind, easing end equipment integration and helping users improve their competitive advantage and time to market.
